Let’s talk natural hair and all its wonders. Your hair is a part of your outfit therefore, no outfit is complete without a good hairstyle. As much you would not go out with a creased shirt, there is no reason you go out with bad hair. If you can take time to ensure that your whites remain white, and can iron your clothes to make sure that they have that crisp feeling when you wear them. You definitely are capable of giving your hair the TLC it needs.

You also need to understand that having natural hair can be an emotional journey. It needs you to be patient and gentle. It can be frustrating having to braid your hair every night before you sleep but it is for your hair’s benefit.

Here are ways to get your 4c hair to be stronger, so you can be unstoppable together:

Tip 1: Understand your hair type

When it comes to 4c hair, there is an array of things that you need to look at aside from your curl pattern. Hair prosperity is also a key guiding point. Knowing your hair prosperity will help you understand how it will react to certain protective styles.

Your hair’s ability to retain moisture will lead you to the correct way to nourish your hair for it to retain moisture for longer periods. These are some things you can look at to understand your hair type. There are also various ready to use sprays that can help your hair retain moisture.

Tip 2: Feed your hair

Give your hair the necessary nutrients. Understand what different foods do for your hair and try and apply them. Rosemary is a simple example of what you can feed your hair to help it. Rosemary water is recommended for oily hair whilst rosemary oil is recommended for dry hair. Rosemary has numerous benefits such as increase blood flow to the scalp, inhibiting hormonal changes that prevent hair growth.

Coconut oil is also a power food. Coconut oil helps with decreasing dandruff, freeze tamer, it can also help with repairing split ends. There various natural remedies and supplements which you can feed your hair to help it grow.

Tip 3: Protective hairstyles

Protective hairstyles should serve that purpose, protecting your natural hair. However, if protective hairstyles are not done correctly they can lead to breakage and damage your hair. Also ensure that you constantly nourish your natural hair before and during a protective hairstyle. A simple concoction of water and leave-in conditioner could go a long way in protecting your edges and hair line.

Have a conversation with your hairstylist about which protective hairstyles will serve that exact purpose for your hair. Protect those edges in the same way you protect your heart.

Tip 4: Wash day

Wash day is a long process, for some it is more than a day. How often you wash your hair should depend on your hair type. Oily hair needs to be washed more often than non-oily hair. Before washing your hair, detangle it with a wide tooth comb. Detangle it while it is still wet.

Wash it in sections. For your shampoo, try and use a shampoo that does not contain sulphates and silicone as these may stripe away the moisture from your natural hair. Use a leave-in conditioner of your choice. This will ensure that your hair is smooth and silky at the end of wash day. You can also add a hair mask of avocado, eggs, shea butter and coconut oil. The mask is optional. Treat wash day as your self care day and take some time to love yourself and your hair.

Tip 5: Love your natural hair

Love your hair. Give it time, be patient with it, be kind to it. Never rush through a hair style. Do not try and take shortcuts unless you really have to. Give it the TLC it needs and we promise your hair will love you back.
